AGENCIA ESTATAL CONSEJO SUPERIOR DE INVESTIGACIONES CIENTIFICAS
The Pathology of Marine Organism Laboratory, Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas (CSIC), is composed of scientists with complementary competences (pathology, microbiology, molecular biology, and immunology).
This team works in the diagnosis of bivalve molluscs and finfish diseases, studying new diagnostic techniques, pathogen characterization, interaction of pathogens with the host immune system and the molecular basis of the immune response and resistance by detection, characterization and study of genes involved in defense response. The facility is well equipped to perform research in marine biology, pathology, immunology and molecular biology.
The research group was named National Reference Laboratory for mollusc diseases (EU Council Directive 95/70), and it has long term involvement and is involved currently in several EU research projects related to fish and bivalve mollusc aquaculture.
